Extremely unique names?

I like Sweetpea, but everyone on YA told me it was ridiculous and not a real name, even though it is (look it up on baby name meanings website!!)

but Anyways, do you have any ideas for extremely unique names? And by any chance, Do you like Sweetpea?

(its for a book!)Extremely unique names?
I call my friend Sweet Pea, but it's as a joke haha. If it's only for a book, though, I say go for it. Ever read The Outsiders by S.E Hinton? The main character's name is Ponyboy. His bro is Sodapop. And it works, because it's a fictional book.

although I wouldn't recommend actually naming a kid that. haha.
sweetpea is not a name and is ridiculous, its like naming your child carrot or limabean. being on the baby naming website doesnt mean diddly squat because anyone can add to those sites, i could add "poledancer" or "hduhd3udh3" as a name on one of those sites, that doesnt make it a real name. some extremely unique girls name that are actually names are Corrina, Veda, Natya, or Inez.Extremely unique names?
Girls--- Amber, Ember, Ambree (french), Pebbles, Pennbrooke, Antoniarain, Mayoen (May-on), Stath, Kinder, Zarah, Zamie, Meck, Kit, Lovley, Bailet, Bailey (my name), Hasley or Haisley, Amine (am-in) , Facts, Lalith, Dale, and Ganime (gan-ime) Good luckExtremely unique names?
Rhiannon.

Rhodesia.

Randi.

1. i just like the name rhiannon. or rhi for short.

2. rhodesia is a pretty name, my friends name. or desia for short.

3. ranid is my name:) ya dont see it everyday:D
if its for a character in a book i think its a great unique name. but as for naming a real child that im not a fan.. you'd want to give them a really normal middle name incase they didnt like being called Sweetpea

Question sort of related to baby names, plus a baby name BQ?

Okay, so I'm a senior in high school this year, and I'm trying to figure out what to do my Senior Project on. Since I'm completely obsessed with baby names, I thought I might do it on the etymology and meanings of names. Do you think it would be a good idea? My other alternative is Domestic Violence.. Original right? lol.

BQ: What are your top 3 names for each gender?

    Mine:

    Violet Isabelle

    Anneliese Ivy

    Clara Vivienne

    Jude Alexander

    Liam John

    Shay Preston

Thanks =)Question sort of related to baby names, plus a baby name BQ?
Your senior project sounds excellent. You need a unifying thesis, however, to sustain continuity. Perhaps an idea would be to look at the way names given to characters in novels and short stories become nouns through common usage. For ex: Scrooge (Dickens has so many more, like Uriah Heep, etc).

I won't list my favourite names, because I've done that on other answers, but of your list I'll choose my top choices: Clara Vivienne and Shay Preston

    ......................................…
I think its a very interesting idea because iv been obsessed with baby names too.

    Mine are

I think doing it on etymology is really cool (and definitely more original and fun than domestic violence!) It's kind of broad, though - what are the parameters of your project? Maybe you could do the etymology of the names of characters in a particular work of literature, or more than one work of literature. Might be interesting!

Did you consider the meaning of baby names when choosing a name for your child?

I didn't. I just picked what I thought was pretty. Of course I've since looked the meanings up:

My oldest is Jocelynn - Old German, "a member of the German tribe, the Gauts

My youngest is Paige - English, "young servant"

So I find them a bit odd lol. So did you pick a name based on meaning or how you thought it sounded?Did you consider the meaning of baby names when choosing a name for your child?
Not really we just focused on the way they sound and look. Of course we looked up the meanings when deciding on the names...but never actually considered changing names because of the meaning. No one really knows or cares abouts meanings these days.
Always, I know most people don't care, but for some reason meaning means a lot to me. A lot of the boy names I like means something to do with the Christian god, and I feel kind of weird because I'm atheist, but my family is Christan and the connotation isn't bad so I still like them. Everett means strong as a wild boar, and that feels very masculine to me. Demetri means mother nature, so I'll only use it as a middle because now it's seems girly to me. Naomi means pleasant and beautiful. Anastasia means resurrection. Cassandra was a prophet and a greek goddess and I love names with history.

For girls middle names, I love names that mean things like my favorite flower, so I like Iris, I also like Willow, and names that have to do with the moon like Selena. The only time I've ever taken something off of my list because of it's meaning was Cameron, it means crooked nose.Did you consider the meaning of baby names when choosing a name for your child?
Most don't consider meanings at all but I do.

When I'm selecting names for my forever changing favourite name list for my future children if I'm lucky enough to be blessed with children because it's nice for a child to have a lovely meaning rather than having the meaning of 'ugly bald head'. I normally choose names that I adore firstly than look at their meanings normally there meanings are rather nice for instance my favourite girl's name is Vivienne and the meaning of that is 'alive' and my favourite boy's name is Levi which has the meaning of 'joined in harmony'. I used to love the name Cameron until I discovered it's meaning of 'crooked nose' which put be of the name. I want 'my children' too one day look at the meaning of there name and smile, which c'mon lets face it we have all once looked up the meaning of our names and I want it to be a moment that makes them smile... so yes I look at the meanings for that moment in their lives.Did you consider the meaning of baby names when choosing a name for your child?
My children have English first names %26amp; Japanese middle names

For the Japanese I considered the meaning because we have to choose which kanji (Chinese) character to use as their official name

In English, I considered the heritage of the name but not the meaning

After I had already picked Evan I found out it meant "little warrior" and when he is being rebellious I regret it

Jocelynn %26amp; Paige are beautiful names
Those are very pretty names you picked out, but I did consider the meaning of my baby's name. I wanted something that was pretty, unique, and had meaning. I picked Calista. The orgin is greek and the meaning is "most beautiful" which indeed she is. Most people just pick something simple with basically no meaning like "mary". My neighbor was named Mary. I feel kind of bad for her because there has to be a billion different mary's in the state of California. Hope this helps! :)
Both, I wouldn't pick a name purely because i liked the meaning, but i do think it is important to have a name with a nice meaning,

I would have to like the way it looks, sounded and it would need a nice meaning. i would also want it to represent mine and my partners family or me or my partner in some way , im kinda fussy :)
I actually used cheerios numerology when i name my children, because they say the fate of the numbers in your name can explict alot in your life, and to stay far away from 4麓s and 8麓s, so I take all my childrens names and do numerology to them. It may be crazy or un realistic but i figure it it isnt im giving my child the best possibilty.
My husband and I always start with making a list of 4-6 baby names from each gender that we really like. Then, we research the origins and meanings of them all, and take off any names that we don't like the meanings of.

    Our childrens names mean:

    First child: A castle.

    Second child: Grace of God.

    Third child: Prince.
They weren't a big deal to my husband and I, but we did check them just to make sure they didn't mean 'unloved' or something like that.

We picked names based on how they sounded. Because no one is going to care that your childs name means 'handsome prince' if it sounds like Scratchybutt.
Most name meanings are pretty obscure so I don't think it matters unless you want to buy one of those name meaning keychains. My name is Lauren and apparently that means "Man from Laurentum" but on keychains it will just say something about laurels meaning victory or something haha.
when thinking of names i do look up the meaning %26amp;%26amp; origin beforehand. but i do like the names jocelynn %26amp;%26amp; paige

    :)

what do you think of these names?

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?鈥?/a>
I currently have an adopted son.So he was already named. But for my future children I plan to name them names that I love.Although the meanings are not bad.But I am more focused on the names themselves.
ahaaaaa , servant , ahaaaaaaaahaaa . i pick names on how it looks and sounds , meanings are stupid . jocelynn is cute , though .
If I like the way a name looks and sounds I'll choose it, but I'll probably take the name into consideration to make sure its not bad or they won't be teased about it ,
I actually wouldn't even think to do that, but I will now!
    no i wouldn't

I've asked before, I'll ask again, what are your favorite baby names and why?

I'm curious to the names people choose for their children, the meanings behind them ect..... I'm currently pregnant with baby boy #4 and looking for a name with meaning.I've asked before, I'll ask again, what are your favorite baby names and why?
    Girls-

Alexandra Christine (Sasha is the nickname I like, Lexi is what my boyfriend likes, so it was a nice compromise. Plus, we like the name.)

Cynthia Nicolae- I like Cindy, and Nicolae was just a name I heard, pronounced like the masculine Nicolai, and I felt it was a strong name for a girl, without being overtly masculine. I liked the idea of Nicky, but until a few months ago, I thought I wouldn't get to have a little boy named Nicolas (explained below), thus leaving me with the only chance of using it to be on a little girl.

Samantha Holly- Samantha again seems like a strong name for a girl to me, but originally this name was supposed to have Holly first, with or without Samantha. But, eventually, I've switched it. Originally, Evan made a lot of fun with Holly, because he felt it was too 'Christmassy" of a name, so there's a lot of memories with it.

Vanessa Raine- Vanessa started in my naming as a middle name for Holly, and that was only because of the chick in Harold %26amp; Kumar: Escape from... you get it. Anyway, I had good connotations with that name, and I though it was beautiful, so when I put Samantha as a first name, I had to move Vanessa around. Raine started as a middle name for Carla (originally, I wanted an Alexandra, Cynthia, Carla, and then Holly was added), but when I got rid of Carla, I dropped Raine. By the way, it's another name Evan made fun of, because I want to use it for the nature reason (Rain), as opposed to the queenly reason (Rayne). When I decided I liked the nickname Rainy/Rainey/Rainie, I figured I keep it.

Boys- These have more substantial meaning to me.

Shaun Kyle- Kyle was the first boy name I really liked, first one Evan ever heard from me, and, well there's a lot of reasons, but I've already said a lot; I'll keep this one down. Originally it was supposed to be Kyle Brent, Brent because of the lead singer of Shinedown who said something during his concerts that I'll never forget, because it shifted my whole mindset. See, I didn't eat for two years, and I was constantly hating myself. First concert Evan and I went to was this one, and I was really self-conscious all day, because I felt like I was fat (and I did have a pooch, but I was way more concerned than I should have been). But when Shinedown was on, one of the most important bands I wanted to see (except for Seether- so that's where I got the Shaun from, and why it has to be spelled like that), Brent was introducing a song, I think it was Better Version, and ranting, and his whole point, when he summed it up, was that everybody was beautiful and that shouldn't be taken away, and at that time, that meant more to me than anything. It changed my whole damn life, so it was pretty important to honor that. Problem was, I hate the name itself. So I had to switch it.

Eric Ramon- Ramon is Evan's middle name, Eric is Scandinavian, my heritage, so this name represents both of us.

Nicolas Daniel- Most important, Daniel was the name of my first friend who passed away when I was a freshman in high school. Friend is actually overstated, I was practically in love with this guy, and had this huge crush on him, but nothing was ever gonna happen there. Anyway, he died his senior year (my freshman) because of a brain tumor, and like I said, that was the first time I had to experience that. Funny thing was, me and Evan both hung out with him, and yet we didn't know each other, even after the funeral we didn't talk, although it turned out his mom drove me home that night (so I was in the same car with him.) Months later, that's how we saw each other again, because we started a class, and he didn't know anybody but me, so he wanted to sit with me. By the way, he annoyed me for 3 months before we started talking, and that was only because I was trying to screw up my life. It's backwards I know, and I'm so happy with the way it turned out, but I always think, if it hadn't of been for Daniel, would me and Ev had ended up together, and would life be like it is now, so I really wanted to find a way to honor him. Plus, it's a good story. I love telling it, I just never get the chance to, so thanks for asking. Nicolas- I love this name, like I said, I like Nicky and Nick as well, but figured Evan would never let me use it due to the fact that it's the name of one of our acquantices for lack of a better term, who is a huge druggie, and Evan didn't want that connotation with the kid. I didn't care. But he was already letting me have a Cindy and a Kyle, with which he had the same problem, so I figured I wouldn't get to use Nicolas, and hoped for at least Nathaniel Nicolas, except for we know a Nathan with the same druggie mentality, and I figured Evan would veto that too. I guess, over time he just stopped caring as much about that, because he really likes the name Nicolas Daniel now. Of course, he is fighting me on Cindy now. Sorry that was so damn long. I really wanted to fully explain the meanings behind them, because that's really importa
I'm pregnant with baby number one. We're not completely sure what gender the baby is yet, but the names we've chosen are:

Meghan Elizabeth (Meghan for a childhood friend who died, and Elizabeth for my favorite aunt.)

Jackson David for a boy. I preferred Noah Matthew, but my boyfriend doesn't like it at all. I'm not religious, but Noah strikes me as a strong name of a man who is good to his fellow mankind as well as animals. Matthew just flows with Noah.

We agreed on Jackson David because it still sounds strong and it's a name a little boy can grow up with and be a serious adult with.I've asked before, I'll ask again, what are your favorite baby names and why?
    Girls;

Lilly Sarah - My daughter will be called this.. Lilly is a beautiful name in my opinion, and Sarah is a variation of my mother's name.

its cute nameWhat do you think of Wylie baby name?
It's ok as the 2nd name. Not as the first. Think of Wil E.Coyote from the cartoon.

But with the last name being Lee, you will have the sound "lee-lee", which might be confusing. What do you think of Wylie baby name?
I like it but it was my neighbor son name.

He has amazing blue eyes and adorable chubby cheeks.

Wylie means From The Tricky River.
Richard Wylie or (Wyleigh) Lee is cute, but the LEEs on the two names are kind of awkward but I don't think it is that big of a deal. Good idea, very very unique.

    Hope I helped.
It's just as weird as "Ketcher" or Catcher to me....I still prefer Rylan Trapper Lee or now....Richard Trapper Lee

And the double LEE's are too much.

  • Can anybody give me 3 cool japanese names for these meanings?

I want to say that I prefer you guys to make to up the names instead of giving me a baby dictionary because i already tried that a thousand times. Also all the names need to be for males.

    First is: Strong, confident song

    Second is: Cool, lazy man

    Third is: Playful melody

Also for the third name, if you want, you can give him a nickname with the name if he was a singer or idol, I would appreciate it.Can anybody give me 3 cool japanese names for these meanings?

Where do baby name books get the definitions for the names they contain?

Ive looked at several and they all seem to be a scam to me to just make money ( it seems there are thousands of different baby name sites/books and self proclaiming idiots who know it all).

For instance you look up the name Audrey in some books and its of old english origin but if you go to an old english translator the word doesnt even exist in that translator... so where do the people who publish these baby names books get the meanings or definitions for the names?

Sounds to me that someone is just capitalizing off of everyone wanting a name that means something great... I mean seriously anyone i ask what their name means; they all have some great or mystical meaning that you really cant research yourself except through baby name books.

any input and ideas are appreciated.Where do baby name books get the definitions for the names they contain?
While some baby name sites are crap, in general the definitions are not a scam.

The reason that Audrey, for example, does not work is because the name has changed drastically over time, so there actually is no OE name "Audrey". Instead it comes from the much earlier word "脝脨EL脼RY脨", which is derived from the OE elements 忙冒el "noble" and 镁ry冒 "strength". So just typing "Audrey" into a translator would get you no results.

There is a big difference between the origin of a name and the form that is most recognizable to us today. Sounds, pronunciations, spellings and scripts of a language can change drastically over time.

Most names are made up of more than one word root; it only has a certain meaning when those elements are combined.

For example, the Greek name "Melanthe" comes from the Greek root mel- (black) and the root anth- (flower) and has a feminine e on the end.

Similarly, the name "Hadley" comes from an OE root had- (heather) and the root -ley (field, clearing), so Hadley means "field of Heather". There are other names that use the same -ley root, like Bradley, in which brad- comes from a root for "broad", so it means "broad field".

You don't need the baby name books to research the meanings of most names; you just have to know the languages from which the names derive (which takes much longer). Some names do have disputed histories, but most have a fairly evident etymology if you know the language.

As for names generally having a positive meaning, this is true but it makes sense. Names are all made up at one point or another, and most parents wouldn't make up a name that has roots meaning something negative. There are only a few names that have truly awful meanings; Kennedy, for example, means something along the lines of "ugly head".

    Hope this helps.

What do you think about my favorite baby names?

I'm just asking for everyones personal opinion. [: Please be open enough to lend suggestions for different names too. [Underneath all names in parentheses are the name meanings and language origins]

    Boys:

    Isaac Reuben

    脡owyn Harper

(Horse Lover-Literary/A Player On The Harp-English)

And those are the names [:What do you think about my favorite baby names?
Beautiful names :) They all flow very well, and I love that they're not made-up. (I also love the literary usage ;D LOTR, right?) 脡owyn Harper is a beautiful combo, even though I'm not too crazy about the name 脡owyn itself. Joshua Rohan is a really strong name, and the names complement each other well. I love European names, and I've recently been interested in German especially, so I think Conrad Yuri is a great name :] And Isaac Reuben is perfect, traditional but still edgy like your other choices. Liam Wyatt is cute, I'm not a big fan of Wyatt because it's so popular, but it's a cute combo. The only thing is I was wondering how to pronounce Aeoli谩.What do you think about my favorite baby names?
I love Isaac Reuben. Very nice meaning, strong masculine name, not overly common or weird.

Joshua Rohan is a little odd to me. I am not a fan of Joshua and Rohan doesn't seem to fit well with it. The meaning isn't as great as Isaac Reuben.

Conrad Yuri has a cool meaning, although reminds me of a kid that gets shoved in the locker at school.

Aeolia Marie doesn't even have a good meaning, not to mention I have NO idea how to pronounce the first name at all. I don't like it. And your child will forever be forced to say and spell her name.

Eowyn Harper is okay. Although Eowyn is a bit masculine for my tastes. Harper is a nice middle name though. What do you think about my favorite baby names?
Isaac Reuben 10/10 very cool name

Joshua Rohan not a huge fan of these

Conrad Yuri is my least favorite name on your list

Aeoli谩 Mari茅 looks nice, but I cant pronounce it

    脡owyn Harper love it, 10/10

    Liam Wyatt 10/10

I'm looking for pretty baby girl names with religious meanings. See this baby is due soon and I've had trouble picking the perfect name and decided to try a name that has religious meaning behind it since this pregnancy I've had complications where it was thought the baby wouldn't make it. I was thinking something like the name Faith, but a little more original than that or more unique? I just want a good name that reflects how this baby has tested my faith and is only still thriving by god's grace. Also the baby's middle name would be Erica to honor a deceased relative if that helps with suggesting a first name. An example of names with religious meanings I'm looking for are names that mean things like "answer to a prayer", etc. Thank you ahead of time!

My favorite story in the Bible is about Hannah who for a long time tried and tried but couldn't have any babies. It says her heart longed and was in pain because of how much she wanted a baby but couldn't get pregnant. Rather than growing bitter or resentful, she prayed harder and more doing all God wanted her to do. Then she had a baby and named him "Samuel" meaning "Because I asked the Lord for Him"

So you could go with Hannah for a girl, and if it comes out a boy, Samuel. Please help only 12days left and need girls names with religious meanings!?

Hope this helps :)Is "Luna" a good name for a baby?
Personally I don't like it but if you like baby names with astrological meanings how about:

    Astra - Star (Greek)

Cari - Abbreviation of Caridad meaning dear; darling. A star in the Orion constellation (Spanish)

    Jacey - Moon (Native American)

    Hope I helped :)
I like Luna but as some people already said, it does remind be quite a lot of the character "Luna Lovegood" from Harry Potter. I would sugest "Runa" instead.

    Hope this helps :)
its really pretty plus you can make it Luna Eloise btw luna means moon in russian u say it Loo-Nah
I have a relative named Luna Moonracer.

    Damn good name!
Only if you want her to be a conspiracy theorist.
Yes, I love it! It's on my list too :)

Luna Elise or Luna Claire :)

    Russian/Ukranian baby names?

For a screenplay, two boy and two girl names needed. Traditional or modern. Name meanings too, if you have them.

ALSO: How are middle names chosen in Russia/Ukraine/USSR?Russian/Ukranian baby names?
Males - Semyon (Simon) %26amp; Mikhail (Michael)

Females - Elena (Helen) %26amp; Katja (similar to Katie)

I know people from this part of the world with these names. See behindthenames for more first names. Naming patters is below, too. See surnames.behindthename for surnames.Russian/Ukranian baby names?
There is NO middle names in Russia/Ukraine. We have name+patronymic (possessive adjective from the name of father, father's name+suffix) and last name. Patronymic is not equal middle name. For example in travel passports of Russians they just omit patronymic because international format of names asks only name-middle name-last name. And in many official forms when they ask "name-middle name-last name" it would be correct to fill in only "name" and "last name".

Those who use their patronymics instead of middle name are technically mistaken (from linguistic point of view), because they are different things.
If it would be the same if English-speaking people should call themselves:

    Jane Alexanderson Smith
    Anne Tylerson Thomas
    Cameron Timothyson Brown
    etc...
It id definetely not English way of speaking.

Read on Internet about patronymic, they give many examples for different names, and you may choose what you like.Russian/Ukranian baby names?

    instantly thought of this !
I favor Orion for a boy. He is the hunter constellation you see in the winter sky in the northern hemisphere. He chases Scorpio across the sky.

    Edited to add:
@Ellyn: That clip made me laugh. I once suggested Erasmus as a boy's name to wife. That was the first name of Charles Darwin's (Darwin being a last name is a poor choice for a first name in my opinion) grandfather, whom encouraged him to go on the voyage of the Beagle and helped persuade Charles' father to let him. ... I got Vetoed!

I like Layla the best for a girl, very easy to pronounce in english and a beautiful name.

For the boy name, all of those names are tricky. They all look arabic, and to give your child some freedom consider picking an arabic name that is easier to people here to prononce, you don't want your child to have to fix everyone everytime someone tries to read his name. Out of the those I like Omar the best.Which of these baby names...? Please help me choose....?

    good luck!
I love Fatima (which means "to abstain," by the way, but is also the name of the only daughter of Muhammad to carry on his line), Layla, Samara (though Samira seems more fitting) and Zayna for girls. ;) Safiya/Safiyyah is also nice, but given the similarity to top-ten Sophia, perhaps "too common," given your ending comments. ;)

For the boys, I quite like Ishmael, but isn't Ismael the Spanish form? Omar is my other favorite. Per your aversion to more common choices, however, I find Hassan and Mustafa perhaps a bit too predictable. Not that they ARE common in and of themselves, but they seem the more stereotypical sort of choices that might SEEM too common, if you follow. And since you do like Zayna for a girl, why not masculine Zayn for a boy? I quite like that as well!

    Hope that helps! ;)
